Christmas in the City 2020

A Partnership with Our YMCA and HOPE Helps, Inc.

Palmwood Church will be partnering with the Oviedo YMCA to help with the HOPE Helps, Inc. Christmas in the City 2020 - an event to help families in need have a better Christmas. We welcome your participation.

This year, due to COVID, the event will look a bit different from how the past. It will be a drive-through by appointment event from December 8 -12, 2020. Each registered family will be receiving gift cards, “stuffed” stockings, and a box of holiday foods and goodies.

How can you help?

  1. Bring donations to drop off in the red box which will be in the YMCA lobby beginning October 8 until November 30. PLEASE concentrate on teens and preteens. That is where the greatest need is.
  1. The following is a list of items that will be collected in the box.
      • New socks and underwear, especially for 11-14 year olds.
      • Small “stocking stuffers” such as small games, grooming supplies and cosmetics. Also gel pens, colored pencils, small journals, wallets, masks, and hand sanitizer. No items too large to fit into a stocking can be accepted.
      • Reusable water bottles that seal. Water fountains at the schools are closed, and kids must bring their own water.
      • Candy - individually wrapped (leftover Halloween candy gratefully accepted)
      • Non-perishable foods such as canned vegetables, boxed mixes for stuffing or holiday baking, gravy packets, rice, cranberry sauce, instant mashed potatoes, cream of mushroom soup, cans of fried onions, small bottles of oil, snack bars, popcorn, and the like.
      • Gift cards in $15 denominations from Publix, Walmart or Target. These will be used as needed to buy items that are not donated and/or will be put into the holiday boxes for recipients to use to purchase gifts or holiday food items to complete their meals.
  1. Volunteer to help pack boxes and stuff stockings the week before distribution dates or to help hand out supplies during the designated drive-through event dates. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and must register at the Hope Helps website (www.hopehelps.org) ahead of time.
  1. Donate by cash or check prior to November 30, 2020. To do so, go to the Hope Helps website at www.hopehelps.org or drop checks off at the Hope Helps location. Do not place cash or checks in the red collection box.
